Move on RSS!

David Davies seems as bemused as I am at the recent spat of vituperative and at times childish discussion on the future of RSS. Thanks to his recent post, I now have a much clearer idea of the issues, and I have to say that I cannot get worked up about them. Through Brent Simmons's sterling efforts we have NetNewsWire, which has effortlessly handled all the feeds I have thrown at it, without my having to look under the bonnet to determine their provenance. Time to move on, I think.

Time to move on, I think.

Here here!

NetNewsWire is a good example of how to support numerous syndication formats and Brent is to be credited for doing such a great job. As an aside I think Brent Simmons is one of the most talented Mac OS X programmers around at the moment and is releasing some great software.

But how much longer can he and other news reader vendors support multiple syndication formats? C'mon guys, play nice and sort it out. My view is that there's more to syndication that weblogs, much more, so an extensible format that can follow different tracks yet still remain valid at the core is the way to go. We had this years ago with RSS 1.0. What's all the fuss about?
